What's for Breakfast?

So most mornings we can't wait to get up because Grammy gives us each a banana, a bowl of Cheerios, and a cup of milk. Sometimes her or Papa make us eggs, hash browns, and toast. We like pancakes on Saturday morning or a waffle on Sunday, but we really prefer our traditional breakfast.

One morning a couple of weeks ago, we ran out of Cheerios, we honestly thought the world was coming to an end. Papa said he would go to the store and get us more, but Grammy insisted that we would be fine with something different. We could not believe she was even suggesting that we could possibly go on with our day, if we did not get those honey nutted circles. We both pouted, Brook folder her arms to her chest and stuck out her lip. Haylie gave Grammy the sad puppy dog face and walked into her room. All Grammy could think of is making us happy with a different choice. She said pancakes, waffles, eggs, even raisin bran, what was she thinking?

She told us to go ahead and think about it, and she put some bread in the toaster, that's what she usually eats for breakfast. Brook said, "I want toast,  mmmm." Grammy asked us if she was sure. Brook said, "yes!" Grammy put two more slices in the toaster. They popped up golden brown and she spread some butter on the slices, cut them in half, and placed them onto our plates next to our bananas. We sat down and each took a bite. We have eaten toast before, but this toast was the best thing since, well, sliced bread. We went about the rest of our day.

The next morning Grammy was pouring a brand new bag of Cheerios into our bowls. We both put our hands up just like the crossing guard does at the crosswalk. Grammy put down the bag and had a look of shock on her face. She was simply stunned. She said, "why don't you want Cheerios?' Haylie looked straight into Grammy's eyes and said, "we want toast!" Grammy gladly complied and smeared the butter on the golden toast. There's no turning back now, oh sure, we still like Cheerios, but we prefer toast!
